North Shore’s yellow bag service to end

Enviro NZ has announced that it will be ending its bagged rubbish collection service in the North Shore area next year.

The EnviroWaste branded yellow pre-paid rubbish bags will stop being sold, with the final day for kerbside collections being 1 March 2024.

We recommend that North Shore residents make new arrangements for their household rubbish before the service ends. Alternatives include Auckland Council, who offer a "pay-as-you-throw" bin-tag service in the North Shore, as well as a number of additional companies that provide rubbish collection services in the area.

Enviro NZ would like to thank our North Shore customers for all their support over the years.

FAQs

  • What does this mean for me? From late 2023, you’ll no longer be able to buy new yellow bags from supermarkets or stores in the North Shore area. We’ll continue providing our usual weekly collections until 1 March 2024, after which we will no longer collect these bags.

  • Why are you stopping your yellow bag service? We’ve made the decision to wind up our pre-paid rubbish bag service in the North Shore area. Enviro NZ supports New Zealand’s shift to rubbish standardisation, which is being introduced from next year. This will see Auckland move to one consistent rates-funded rubbish service, with bins replacing bags.

  • When’s this all happening?
    • December 2023 – February 2024: Over this period, Enviro NZ will begin to phase out our yellow bag service and will not be restocking shelves as shops run out. We encourage customers to use up any yellow bags they may currently have and to make new arrangements for their household rubbish before the service ends.
    • 1 March 2024: This will be our final day of collecting yellow bags in the North Shore. If you have any remaining yellow bags after 1 March 2024, please get in touch with our customer service team for assistance. Alternatively, you may wish to drop off full yellow bags at our Constellation Drive Resource Recovery Centre or Patiki Road Transfer Station for disposal.

  • What do I do with my bags? We're contacting you early so you can use up all your pre-paid yellow bags before we finish the service. We'll continue our weekly collections until 1 March 2024, so don't worry; you have plenty of time left. Please contact our team on 0800 240 120 if you have any issues or concerns.

  • Will you continue to offer a pre-paid yellow bag service in Franklin? Yes, our yellow bag service for Franklin residents will continue as normal and is unaffected by the changes to our North Shore operations.

  • What are my alternative solutions once your yellow bags exit the market? Auckland Council have been informed of our decision to exit the area and are ready and prepared for our customers to switch over to their services, offering residents a "pay-as-you-throw" bin-tag service. Residents can request a council rubbish service via the Auckland Council website: aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/rubbishandrecycling

If you have any questions about the closure of our yellow bag service, please get in touch by calling our team on 0800 240 120, or by emailing us at enquiries@environz.co.nz.
